John's song reflects the psychological truth that, the best way to break down barriers between people and groups, is for them to come together to achieve something positive for both parties.

His song of hope has gone around the world, having been shared close to home at open mics, by massed choirs and even spread to the USA where it has been taught at Folk Camps and included in folk song journals.

It embraces a theme that is at the heart of Merry Hell's being.

The video reminds us of those difficult times when we were apart,corded during a relaxation in the lockdown rules but where social distancing was still an issue - the band were 2 metres apart in lttle boxes marked out on the stage.

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser. Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this. Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?).
