about

Virginia explains: I was reminiscing about all the protest marches I attended in London, when I was living in a squat there in the 1980s. Also, the admiration I feel today, seeing the passion and energy of young people making their voices heard and standing up for shared values. They inspire me to make sure my own 'fire of justice' never goes out.

lyrics

Rage Like Thunder – words and music by Virginia Kettle

Do you remember your student days,
You had a passion for the human race.
Ragged Philanthropist with starry ideals
Sleeping on the street to feel how it feels

Whatever happened to the boy you were before
Marching for justice, anti-fascism, anti-war
Now it seems you don’t shout so loud
Two decades on you say the fire’s gone out

And you tell me that you are content
Your battlefield days are spent
Happy in your own back yard
But your eyes betray your heart

Inside you still rage like thunder
Inside you still rage like thunder

Do you remember those bedsit days
Packet noodles, Thunderbird wine, Purple Haze
Scratched a living busking on the underground
Funny that our nothing was enough to go around

Whatever happened to the girl you used to be
Wouldn‘t leave Trafalgar Square ‘til Nelson Mandela was free
Now you pay your bills and keep your head down
Suburban semi on the right side of town

And you tell me that you are content
Your battlefield days are spent
Happy in your own back yard
But your eyes betray your heart

Inside you still rage like thunder
Inside you still rage like thunder

Inside you still rage like thunder
The raging never dies

And you tell me that you are content
Your battlefield days are spent
Happy in your own back yard
But your eyes betray your heart

Inside you still rage like thunder
Inside you still rage like thunder
Inside you still rage like thunder

Inside you’re still raging, raging like fire
The thunder’s deep inside
The raging never died.
